Dog Training. Human Learning.

Because life is better when you understand your dog.

We help you build calm, confidence, and connection that lasts — without quick fixes or obedience drills.

Meet the Team

We want you to remember the dream you had when you first brought your dog home.
Was it adventure? A calm companion by your side? A snuggle bug on the couch?

While we can’t promise your dog’s goals match yours, we can help you understand what drives their behavior — so you can confidently navigate real life together.

Because when you know what your dog needs, you can finally enjoy life with your buddy.

What We Want for Every Dog-Human Team

When You Work with Casa Luna Canines, Our Goals for You Are Simple

Everything we teach builds one thing — a relationship that’s Calm. Confident. Connected.

We help you:

  • Understand what drives your dog’s behavior — instead of relying on obedience commands.

  • Build real problem-solving skills, so you’re confident guiding your dog in any situation.

  • Turn frustration into progress through play, pattern, and practice.

  • Learn to read your dog’s signals so you can respond, not react.

  • Enjoy life together — at home, on walks, and everywhere in between.

Our Work Is Guided by What We Believe

We Believe:

  • Training should begin with understanding, not control.

  • Dogs and humans learn best when they feel safe, supported, and seen.

  • Force-free, non-harmful methods aren’t optional — they’re essential.

  • Diversity matters. We welcome and celebrate all dogs and all people.

  • Play and practical games build skills faster (and happier) than pressure.

  • Every success counts — no matter how small.

At Casa Luna Canines, we do more than train dogs — we teach teams. Every choice we make and every program we design supports one goal: helping both dog and human become Calm. Confident. Connected.

The Framework Behind It All

Our BASICS FrameworkBonding, Awareness, Synchronizing, Instructing, Coaching, and Succeeding — keeps relationship, not rigidity, at the heart of everything we teach.

When both dog and human learn to regulate, think clearly, and stay connected, cooperation becomes effortless — and real-life calm and confidence follow.

Meet the Team

  • Heather Furby is a behavior specialist with over 30 years of experience helping dogs and their humans navigate life together with more calm, confidence, and connection.

Heather began her formal education in canine behavior in 2010 with the Service Dog Seminar at Bergin College of Canine Studies. Years later, she returned to Bergin to earn her Master of Science in Human-Canine Life Sciences, studying under Dr. Bonita Bergin — the pioneer behind the U.S. service dog model and one of her greatest mentors.

Heather’s journey started like many of her clients’: with dogs who didn’t read the rulebook. Her curiosity about why dogs behave the way they do turned into a lifelong study of canine cognition, emotion (specifically canine joy), and human learning. That curiosity — combined with her background in years of human development and communication — shapes her ability to translate complex behavior into strategies that make sense in real life.

Her work connects the needs of both dog and human — because both halves of the team are always learning. By combining brain work and behavior science with practical, hands-on methods, Heather helps owners see that their dog’s behavior isn’t “bad.” It’s information and communication. Once people learn how to read it, change happens quickly and compassionately.

She’s also worked extensively with individuals of varying physical, emotional, and cognitive abilities, refining her sensitivity to body language — the primary language of dogs. Every training plan she creates considers emotional well-being and behavioral progress, because one can’t exist without the other.

Heather believes in celebrating each dog-human team’s unique personality and helping both build the confidence to navigate the real-world — not just perform in training scenarios.

Beyond training, Heather’s vibrant personality shines through. She’s known for her awesome socks, her curiosity about life’s mysteries, and her knack for blending science, structure, and soul.

  • I’m not a “dog expert” by any stretch.

I joined Heather to build Casa Luna Canines because I’ve seen this approach work.

We even had that dog. Ziggy could go full red zone around most other dogs — and sometimes people. He even bit me when we first brought him home. But when I finally understood what he was trying to say, something clicked: maybe we need to understand our dogs before we start telling them what to do.

My background is in technology and marketing, so I’ve always been drawn to how things work and how to communicate that clearly. Turns out dogs aren’t that different — once you understand how they experience our world, everything shifts.

From building fiber-optic and wireless networks to helping companies process and distribute video, I’ve spent my career making connections.

Now, I get to help make a different kind of connection — between people and their dogs.

  • Luna is the heart and namesake of Casa Luna Canines. She arrived as a foster after a rough start in life, and despite Heather swearing “No, I am not ready for another rehab dog,” Luna clearly had other plans.

She quickly secured a permanent position as ruler of the household — and business — field-testing every training theory and ensuring that a healthy dose of humility stays in the curriculum.

Casa Luna Canines - Dog Training. Human Learning. is her legacy.
